This Spring

Hive & Colony partners with MassArt to invite emerging designers to rethink what already exists  and transform it through craft, intention, and personal perspective. The outcome: a single jacket, reimagined.

The Competition

An upcycling challenge rooted in real-world design thinking.

Students will reinterpret existing Hive & Colony garments, approaching design with creative restraint, technical skill, and purpose. From concept to construction, the process mirrors how ideas move in the industry, thoughtfully and collaboratively.

The Process

Selected students will develop a concept package including:

  • Sketches
  • Moodboard
  • Fabric and material direction
  • Present their ideas for review by Hive & Colony and MassArt

A group of finalists will be selected to bring their designs to life.

The Final Challenge

Each finalist will construct one fully realized jacket, ready for presentation. The completed pieces will be showcased during a live event in Boston, reviewed by a panel of guest judges.

The Award

A scholarship award and a summer internship with
Hive & Colony, working directly with Head of Product Development & Design, Brittanie Gigler
